Working On a Space
I talked to my parents a couple weeks ago about possibly using a space in their basement as a workshop/studio. They agreed and Dad is excited about helping me set up a space! I am excited for us to work on some projects together and to have the help getting started. We are working on cleaning out and organizing the basement this week, but it will probably be a little bit before I am up and going, but will be posting pictures soon!! Maybe until then, I can do a few small things here at home. :) Check out my Pinterest board to see a few ideas that I am thinking about trying... http://www.pinterest.com/tiffpam/things-made-new-ideas/ . I have a bunch of other plans of things to make, but will have to share pics as I experiment. Stay tuned!
Studio Assistant!
So much has happened in the last few weeks I am really behind on blogging! I will try to get caught back up...
A couple of weeks ago, I finally met up with Kristin, the artist from Versailles, and started helping her with a piece of art she was trying to finish for an open Studio she was having in New York City. As I mentioned in the last post, the project was was gluing down strips of shredded paper onto a canvas in a specific pattern. I have attached a couple of pics of the piece, which turned out really great, i thought!! Once that piece was finished we started on another piece, which Kristin planned to finish in New York. It was a really neat experience getting to work with an artist. We talked about everything under the sun, including art, and had a really good time. :) It was definitely motivating and inspired me to get started doing stuff of my own!!
Kristin's website is http://kristinrichards.com , but it looks like she is updating and doesn't have her "Paper" pieces listed right now. Be sure to check back!

This is a picture of the first piece, about 2/3 of the way done. |
The pink one in the back is another piece she had done... I love it! |
The finished product! |
This is the 2nd piece that we started. This one was orange strips of paper in a diagonal design, to have additional layers added on top. |

Discouragement... and Opportunity
I have been feeling a little discouraged the last couple of days. I really feel like starting my own business is something that I want to do, but just not sure where to start. I really feel like I need to have a few concrete ideas to get going on right away, but just not sure what those are yet. I went to my niece's birthday party this past weekend and talked to several people about my journey and came away feeling like I might not be prepared for this. I hadn't heard back from the artist that I mentioned in the last post and was disappointed about that, but decided to email her again and see if I got any response and I'm so glad that I did. We finally met this afternoon and talked about her projects and what she is needing. It will be a short project, three days, but a good chance to make a connection and get into the Art world. I will be gluing pieces of shredded paper onto a canvas. As boring as it may sound, I am excited. :)

Starting Over
I made a bold step two weeks ago, by turning in my resignation at my job, with no job lined up to go to. I felt like it was now or never and now was the right time. Life is too short to be miserable, stressed and upset all the time! I have been thinking about what I want out of life... If I could be anything, what would I want to be? An artist, a business owner: these are the two I keep coming back to. Yes, I could get another full time job in an office environment. Yes, I could probably make decent money... but is that my dream? My dream has been to start up a business, making things or re purposing things from recycled materials; things that were on their way out to the curb, making them into something new. I love the idea, that even at our very worst, when we are on our way out to the curb, there is still hope for us to be picked up and changed into something wonderful, useful, beautiful. So... I am hoping to document my journey to make this dream real.
Day 1 (with no job):
Found a post on Craigslist wanting a Studio Assistant to help an artist here in Versailles finishing a couple of art pieces for a show in New York next weekend. I'm going to do it!! It's not about the money, it's the chance to get started, involved with art, make a connection. I'm excited! Supposed to set up a time to meet today. :)
More to come...
